hidet

2022

hidet is a constellation of sculptural ceramic works and prints that emerges from a material conversation between body, landscape, and form. The project traces an ongoing exploration of how fragmented bodies and gestures, carvings, clay gatherings, and mark-making are sites of intimate collaboration. The prints originate in woodcarving, reliefs that are then dispersed and re-membered through movement and placement, reflecting a rhizomatic approach to storytelling and form-making. Forms are in a continuous dialogue. These works are grounded in a practice of observation, repetition, and embodied experimentation that resists rigid boundaries between ecology and memory.

hide donkey hide
2024

This work explores the ecological and emotional entanglements between humans and donkeys, now endangered by global commodification. Once integral to the landscapes and livelihoods of East Africa and beyond, donkeys are increasingly disappearing from regions like Ethiopia, Brazil, and Afghanistan, their bodies extracted for Ejiao, a gelatin derived from donkey hides and consumed within the Chinese wellness industry.

What began as traditional medicine has morphed into mass exploitation, turning donkeys into products and communities into sites of extraction.

Whose body is afforded care? What does wellness mean when it rests on disappearance?
